Eligibility Criteria for NDA

Every year, the UPSC issues the eligibility criteria for the NDA Exam on its official website at www.upsc.gov.in, considering factors such as age, educational qualifications, physical standards, and nationality. Initially, the NDA Exam was only open to unmarried male candidates, but now female candidates are eligible to apply.

Candidates between the ages of 16.5 to 19.5 can sit for the exam, though academic qualifications vary slightly based on the desired post. For the Army wing, candidates must have passed the 10+2 board exam or an equivalent from a recognized university. For the Air Force and Naval wings, candidates should have completed their 10+2 or equivalent in Physics and Mathematics. Additionally, candidates must meet physical fitness criteria, height and weight requirements, vision standards, and nationality criteria to be eligible for the National Defense Academy.

NDA 2024 Exam Pattern

The NDA exam consists of two stages: the written examination and the SSB interview. The written examination is divided into two parts: Mathematics (300 marks) and the General Ability Test, which includes 200 marks for English and 400 marks for General Knowledge. The NDA written exam consists of 900 marks.

After the written exam, results are announced on the UPSC website. Qualified candidates then advance to the next stage, the SSB interview. The SSB interview is a five-day process conducted in two stages: the Psychological Aptitude Test and the Intelligence Test. Based on their preferences, successful candidates are then assigned roles in the Army, Navy, or Air Force wings of India. The first paper of the NDA exam focuses on mathematics and carries a total of 300 marks. Thus, a clear preparation strategy and a planned approach are essential. Notably, the sections with the highest weightage are Algebra, followed by Coordinate Geometry and Calculus.

Candidates are advised to prioritize Trigonometry before Calculus due to the quicker and more direct nature of Trigonometry questions. Additionally, include Statistics in your study plan, and conclude your Mathematics preparation with Probability and Calculus. Write down all the formulas and place them on a wall in your study room where you can see them daily. Start with topics that require less time first. For instance, start with Algebra, Coordinate Geometry, and Trigonometry, and tackle more time-consuming subjects like Calculus and Probability later. Another useful tip is to minimize time spent on similar tasks. For example, solve two to three typical Math problems for each type. This approach allows you to cover all topics efficiently within a short period.

When preparing for the second paper of the NDA Exam, a holistic approach is recommended to cover all subjects. Known as the General Ability Test (GAT), Paper 2 includes English, Science, Social Studies, and General Awareness. Begin by mastering the basics of English grammar, but do not spend too much time on this. Utilize previous question papers for study, as questions are often repeated. Practice rules-exception-based questions for grammar. Cracking the NDA Exam is challenging, but with passion, courage, and the right preparation and strategy, you can succeed and serve the nation as you envision.
